PDF Tools Overview
Essal Office includes a set of built-in PDF tools that let you modify documents directly in your browser — without downloading the file, editing it externally, and re-uploading. You can split documents into multiple parts, merge documents together, rotate pages, and delete unwanted pages.
These tools work only on PDF documents. For other file types (images, Word documents), you would need to download and edit them externally.
Accessing PDF Tools
- Open a PDF document from the document list
- Look for the Edit or PDF editor button in the document toolbar
The PDF editor opens with a page-by-page view of the document, giving you access to all PDF modification tools.

When to Use PDF Tools
PDF tools are most useful for correcting common scanning and filing problems:
- Upside-down or sideways scans → Rotate the affected pages
- Multiple documents scanned as one file → Split into separate documents
- A document scanned in multiple batches → Merge the parts into one
- Pages accidentally included → Delete the unwanted pages
- Cover shee or fax headers you do not want to keep → Delete the page
PDF Tools vs. Re-Uploading
Whenever possible, use the built-in PDF tools rather than downloading, editing externally, and re-uploading a document. The built-in workflow:
- Preserves the document's existing metadata (title, tags, correspondent, etc.)
- Keeps the document in its original location and with its original permissions
- Maintains the document history log with a record of the structural change
Re-uploading creates a new document entry and loses the original's history.
Working with Multi-Page PDFs
The PDF editor displays each page as a thumbnail. You can scroll through all pages and select individual ones for rotation or deletion before applying changes. This makes it easy to work with long scanned documents where only a few pages need correction.
